As part of the 'Committed to Growth' initiative the church is seeking planning permission for a small extension to incorporate a toilet and kitchen, as shown in the plan. It is felt that this will make the church more accessible and of greater use to the local community and to visitors. The lack of toilet facilities restricts its use and causes difficulty to some members of the congregation. It is felt that this extesnion will greatly enhance the church, and will enable us to attract more people into the church to experience its spirituality. The extension will also enable the area around the font to be cleared thus enhancing the interior space.
The extension will be on the south side of the church between the two butresses as shown in the sketch plan below and will use an original opening which at some stage in the life of the church was converted to a window. The walls will be rendered in the same way as the existing walls to ensure that the extension is in keeping with the rest of the church.
The process of planning permission is at an early stage with the various interested parties being informally consulted before formal planning permission is sought. It is hoped that if all goes well that the building of the extension will be started by summer 2010.
